The Enchanted Forest: Legend & The Iron Fairies

y

The current phenomenon of woodland animals such as owls, foxes and deers appearing in everything from fashion, stationery and interior design, including tree and nature motifs have sparked in me an uncontrollable interest for magical fantasy creatures that include fairies, unicorns, and enchanted forests, somehow this theme reminds me of the last days of winter and a new beginning; Spring.

This weekend I caught on a very important task, bum movie watching! It’s amazing how you can watch an old flick and begin to see several details that you missed the first time. The movie Legend directed by Ridley Scott, starring Tom Cruise and Mia Sara was one of my favorite movies when I was a little girl and watching it again opened my eyes to the world of unicorns and demons. I will not give anything away but the story is your usual hero saving a damsel in distress in a beautiful and chaotic fantasy world. I had forgotten how magical and visually captivating this film was, the music and scenes blew me away, I didn’t want to blink since I wanted analyze every detail of each scene. I couldn’t help being captivated by the glittery imagery along with the beautiful face of Mia Sara and a very young and yes I have to admit, a cute pre-scientology Tom Cruise? If you have not watched this film I highly recommend it, it is very inspirational and visually magnetic, especially when Lilly (Mia Sara) becomes the wife of the Lord of the Darkness.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more forest fantasy creatures this Spring, elves, unicorns and although Prada set the tone last year with fairies, maybe this year we’ll see fairies again on more affordable items and who knows maybe we’ll start seeing more men in tights ;) Check out a few of my favorite screen shots from the movie, don’t forget to rent or buy it if you can!

Lilly and Jack sharing a loving moment in the magical forest :)

The great unicorn and the most sacred creature of the land

Lilly as the wife of the Lord of The Darkness, I would faint too is my husband looked this scary!

In the spirit of fantasy and fairies, I also recommend a great store called the Iron Fairies they have several locations world wide and there’s one in New York City in St. Marks, the place is amazing and if you still need a magical fix after watching Legend you can def catch wonderful soaps, candles and jewelry. The store is surrounded by gargoyles and magical creatures, here are some great shots of the New York store, you an also check out their interactive website and shop for cute items.
