i searched “garden collection reviews” and found you. i actually thought the red dress you have on (in ivory) would make a lovely wedding dress. mine was tea length and less than $200. i had it cleaned and boxed, but have been thinking about breaking it out and wearing it again … i’m sure you probably have it by now and it’s adorable – love your style!

I didn’t want a conventional dress either. I almost bought a cherry red 50s cocktail dress, but was afraid of buying online, as I’ve never done it before.

My quandary was solved when I walked into my favorite thrift store and discovered a champagne-coloured lace evening gown. It cost $9.50. It’s not my “dream dress” – I didn’t have a moment where I started crying about how it was “the One”. It did something better: it made the marriage feel real. I walked out the store so giddy at the money I’d saved and thoughts of the future swirling through my mind. What a great day.

I’m not the biggest fan of the idea of a wedding dress, in a traditional sense. I never thought I’d agree to get married, so I never had to “dream wedding” scenario in my head. Now that I am – I kinda just love the idea of getting a dress I will wear again, so that when I do, I can go through my day thinking, “this is the dress I married in” – a perfect wow moment that lasts the whole day!
