While walking through Barnes and Noble’s magazine section, I decided to give Vogue another chance, *wink-wink* I opted for the Nippon (Japanese) edition and man I was completely blown away by the July issue, not only is it refreshing, I’m surprised they are giving credit to the manga, anime and the whole otaku (obsessed fan) culture. Many of you may not know this but I am a geek for manga and anime, when I saw the fashion trends comparing several anime characters to different designer looks, I was overjoyed with glimmery happiness, haha. Check out the cool trends, cosplay models and Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld in a comic book!

I was filled with sheer happiness when I saw the anime characters representing the manga counter culture that many people love and enjoy.

I love this romantic and frilly trend showcasing Chanel and Balmain’s feminine designs and also representing the Japanese gothic lolita look.

Sometimes I like to think Lady Gaga is a super hero with a great voice and off the hook style, fighting evil doers with her amazing performances and killer moves. This trend represents the sexy heroine in manga and anime movies and yes I likey!

The lolita school girl look has always been a popular trend in Japan but it has influenced American pop culture in shows like Gossip Girl. I absolutely love the cute preppy and sexy style.
Cosplay
Another aspect of the anime culture is Cosplay, many girls love dressing up as their favorite manga or anime characters, check out these awesome role-play outfits.

Manga
Many designers have been inspired by the Japanese comic book style known as Manga, I absolutely love the t-shirts and artwork.

OMG….. Vogue’s most important international editors in a fashion Manga?! AHHH!!!!! I wish I could read Japanese ;_;

I like Japanese Vogue’s new approach to fashion, if you could change one thing of American Vogue to make it more interesting, what would you change?

Thank you for putting this up. I know how long these types of posts take to put together.
Oh I love this. You must get the translation for that.
While these magazine tears are fantastic unfortunately they just remind me on how limited our Vogue is, thanks Anna!
@ 39th & Broadway
I know! looking at these makes me wonder what new things American Vogue can do to make the magazine better. You know I read rumors that Anna is working on getting fresh new talent to bring American Vogue to a new level, I don’t know if the rumors are true but I hope they are :)
Oooh! Ahhh! me likey! Japanese fashion always excites me! I’m probably very biased, but Japanese designers just seem to have an edge over the rest of the world.
I like Anime, and dearly wish i had the features and figure to carry off a Lolita look!
I agree with 39th & broadway. Our Vogue is so limited and boring. We need something more interesting. This editorial is so amazing because it is fresh and unexpected.
Once in a while, I subscribe to US Vogue, then I get bored and cancel. then the vicious cycle starts over again! For American mainstream fashion mags, I kind of like Elle best. Paris Vogue is good, too, but I started noticing that all their articles revolve around covering American pop culture. Which is kind of funny. I’m translating my poor French into English about some movie that came out in the states like months ago…
awsome i love japanese fashion .they so unique !
p.s Im a anime and manga lover too !! whats ur fav ?
Wow, these are some really cool outfits, love it that the manga culture is trickling down the runaway…great post!
