Chanel visits Shanghai for 2010 Pre-Fall

Chanel unveiled it’s new Pre-fall 2010 couture collection Paris – Shanghai. The concept was Coco Chanel’s dream to visit this wonderful city, unfortunately she never had to chance to visit Shanghai, as a result Karl Lagerfeld created a collection that would reflect Chanel’s vision of a collection inspired by this magical place. The pieces look very elegant, I also added the wonderful pearl tower to the images since it was the backdrop for the show. The only thing I wasn’t happy about was the film accompanying this collection, in it a few of the models are shown with Asian inspired elongated eyes, seriously couldn’t Karl look for real Asian models to represent the Chinese women in this film?! I did see Du-Juan but wasn’t happy to see that many of the important roles weren’t given to Asian models. Check out the pics and video.

………………….

Freja?! is that you playing a concubine? Danish doesn’t equal Chinese.

Also…

Viewing Chanel’s newest collection reminded me of Wong Kar-wai’s film In the mood for love. The hairstyles of the models looked very similar to the 50′s hair showed in the movie, also the beautiful fabrics and patterns looked very familiar.  Hmm… now if only I could look as elegant and sexy as Maggie Cheung buying noodles, lol. If you haven’t watched this film I highly recommend it, it’s a beautiful love story and every image is like a work of art.

  3. This collection is not really my style nor is it my favorite from Karl but overall I enjoy it. It is nice to see a label go in a completely different and unique direction then their usual. It is risky but bravo to Chanel for attempting it.

There are a few neat pieces, but overall I don’t think the collection is totally my style – I do think it’s an interesting direction to go in, though.

Ughh I can’t watch the video right now, but I am so sick of fashion people pulling these stunts. Instead of trying to make a white woman look Asian, why don’t you just find an Asian model ffs?! Is that so hard?!

    @ Nubia
Yes, you would think at this day and age Karl would cast more Asian models instead he decided not to. BTW thank you, yes my BF and I are very happy and are currently planning the wedding next year :)

    Much love,
    Glendy

Yes, the pieces look different and elegant but not the best collection I have seen, I also felt a bit upset Karl went this direction with the models in the video, you would think after Paris vogue used models in “black Face” Lagerfeld would cast REAL Asian models, instead he went the same route as the publication, terrible!

    Much love,
    Glendy

  7. Thank you ever so much for the peek! Interesting… black seems to stay, with yellows and reds now.

The detailing is gorgeous. My favorite part though has to be the earrings.

And it is quite off-putting that they didn’t use more Asian models for the video.

    Love Grace.

  9. It is a beautiful collection! but I agree with the asian models thing. x
