I usually avoid stores during the holidays since it’s a mad house, however yesterday I decided to hit Target and to my shock the racks were filled with many of the advertised dresses from the Rodarte collabo. As always, I had my camera handy and was about to snap some pics when out of nowhere a dedicated female employee with a manly husky voice told me “NO PICTURES!” I almost jumped out of my shoes, that deep voice scared the hell out of me! Lol, the collection looked great and to my surprise the materials were much better than the Anna Sui collection from a few months ago. Since I couldn’t take pictures, I decided to take matters into my own hands, it was time to hit the fitting room and take the Rodarte babies for a road test, check out my finds ;)

Slip Lace Dress ($39.99) – I entered the dressing room excited to try out my new finds, however I noticed the same problem of past Target designer collabos; the sizing. Note that my measurements are 34.5″-26″-36″ and I usually fit a U.S. size 4 or 5 (medium). The beige dress caught my eye immediately and I loved the lace and tulle fabric overlay. I choose a size medium, and the fit seemed a bit off, my boobs were popping out and the waist band kept riding up, I also felt naked. The bows were adorable but the top of the dress was a problem, I can’t imagine walking around in this dress, it feels like lingerie and makes me look like I have extra love handles. It’s looks beautiful on a hanger but I don’t think it’s right for me.
Sequin Ribcage Dress ($49.99) The Second dress I tried on was the infamous rib cage dress that was getting rave reviews before it was released. I had imagined this dress to be made of jersey or any stretch material but it was made of a poly-blend fabric with sequins. I choose a size XS (notice the size difference from the first dress) The fit was nice but I don’t know if I liked the dress, It reminded me of my past high school goth stage, lol.

Lace and Tulle Skirt ($ 29.99) The skirt was my favorite piece from the collection, it looked cute with my favorite top and is versatile enough to be mixed up for day or night. I chose a size 5 and fitted comfortably.

Leopard Print Dress ($44.99) The last dress I tried on was the only leopard dress left at the Target store in Queens, NY. It was a SIZE 9, and note that it fits me perfectly on the top and is loose at the hips. Although I couldn’t achieve the best quality with my flashless point & shoot camera, the color of the print doesn’t look good in person, it has too much mustard rather than a bright yellow or orange tone. The back has three cute bows that are a pain to close on your own but the quality of the dress was great.
Overall, I would give a 7 out of 10 to the Rodarte for Target collection, the quality was impressive but again the fitting is a major problem, I didn’t end up buying anything since nothing really blew me away. I hope you liked my first fitting room confidential, I will keep up with these reviews, so stay tuned for next year!
Have you bought or tried on any new pieces from the Rodarte for Target collabo?

Hey, we go to the same Target! The nude slip dress doesn’t look as bad on you as you may think, because it looked WAY worse on me (especially the top part like you noted…what nightmare). Also, hello static overload with those tulle dressses! My favorite pieces are the sherpa-ish vest and the black lace cardi!

I tried on the first two pieces you reviewed and had the same issues. The beige dress was sagging in the most unfortunate places. And the sequined dress felt almost like something from Hot Topic. But considering this was a Target/designer collab the fabric quality was stellar!
Love Grace.
I absolutely love these pics of you with the new line!! Keep the look books coming, doll!
XOXO

This was so helpful!
I was wondering how the peices really were, but none of the pieces are really catching my eye so i dont think I’ll be buying anything from it.
@ Amanda
Hey girl, do you also live in Queens? The tulle dress looked OK for a sec when I took the pic but as soon as I started moving, the top part began shifting into a bad boob slip gone wrong, lol
Much love,
Glendy
@ Cici
The pieces looked better than Target’s previous collabos but the fit was always an issue, although the skirt was the more manageable of the pieces, I decided not to buy it since it didn’t blow me away, I’m glad my review helped :)
Much love,
Glendy
Glendy – Yep I live in Queens! Really close by the Target mall actually. I was there again tonight to buy some containers haha!

You look absolutely stunning in that leopard dress! Really. It looks like it was made just for you my dear, beautiful fashionista! But if you say that the hue of yellow was not good… I believe you. You know your subject;)
Linked a couple of your photos on my blog here for a Rodarte post, I hope that is okay. :-) Eyeliah
i wanted to take pics but the target ladies were stalking the clothes

I also encountered similar problems at my Target, the people at the stores are being so cautious with this darn collection, I dunno why, maybe it has been the lackluster reviews they have been getting.
@ Eyeliah
Thanks so much for the cred darling :)
Much love,
Glendy
Hi, you look fabulous in the first dress. Love your style, keep up the good work!

I’m obviously in the minority (and it’s not shocking considering how my tastes run), but I think you look smokin’ hot in the ribcage dress! I don’t think it’d look very good on my figure, though.
I saw a few of the pieces last time I was in Target, and they weren’t pieces I was interested in anyways, but I was not impressed. The fitting/sizing looked really wonky, like you noticed.
Oh, I really liked the leopard dress! And by the way, how was the new years eve for you? Many hugs.
Everytime I pass by the Beige mesh dress at Target, I notice that the quantity always remain the same. hmmm that kind of shows that the garment is not selling. The designers should target the customer needs. People go to Target for groceries and daily products. If the garments are purchased, it based on convenience of the location. I have never seen any fancy designer dresses being sold from the racks. I think its great that the designers are mass producing their brands, but the garments should be more practical, rather than fancy shimancy.
Anyways, awesome post.
I hope to see more post like this.
garments models by real ppl.
