NYC is still freezing cold but I can’t wait for the temperature to rise and start seeing the magical cherry blossoms. This weekend I came across an array of beautiful images and in an unlikely turn I discovered Shanghai’s silent cinema and the beautiful yet tragic Ruan Lingyu. I also came across the Old Orient Museum, a virtual gallery that specializes in showcasing early 20th century Japanese and Chinese advertising art. Check out my new inspiration board for Spring 2010, I can’t wait for the New York City Cherry Blossom festival, are you lovelies planning on attending any events this upcoming season?

I simply adore your “Spring Inspiration” theme! I am looking forward to Spring already! J’adore!
I live in NYC as well, so I want to go to the Cherry Blossom festival as well. I was actually thinking of making a web layout featuring cherry blossoms and photos I take at the event.
Very Pretty!

I love the cherry blossom festivities – I wait for them every year. I’m burrowing through my hard drive for warm-weather inspiration too. Brrrr.
Hey, Glendy: Thanks for the mention of my website, the Old Orient Museum. It was truly a labor of love, as I fell in love with every single one of those images during the 14 months I spent digitally restoring them. Just letting you know your comments matter! Truly lovely blog, also. Cheers, Vincent Lexington Harper.
Thanks for the writeup last year. Am happy to announce the grand re-launch of the Old Orient Museum after a complete makeover, with bigger photos and extended captions with historical references and an extended soundtrack of the same spooky tunes. If anything it would be worth a look to see the artist (me) on television in a darkened room in my best beat Takeshi impression.
The new Museum also has added a new section on early Japanese Photogrphy going back to the 1880′s, with small business sized glass lantern slides colored by hand with tiny brushes some small enough for only one single hair.
Welcome one and welcome all, and as always, a visit to this online museum is free of charge. Since it’s founding in 2009 it won a prestigious award by the American Design Awards (ADA) out of 35,000 annual website entries.
Cheers,
Vincent Lexington Harper
