My Tumultuous Relationship with Fashion

I love fashion but right now we are taking a break from each other and exploring other options.

I have loved fashion for a few years now, it was love at first glance. At first, I learned so much from It and It made me feel so inspired and happy. I now know it probably wasn’t appropriate but I’ll come clean and confess it, fashion was my provider. It was a mean and strict dictator but also a fulfilling and intriguing lover.

However, last year things turned sour,  fashion and I got to the point where we couldn’t have a conversation anymore and our constant arguments drove us to fast-fashion insults. I avoided trade shows, showrooms and even magazines, I couldn’t bear to see fashion fall from grace, It became a ridiculous and lost soul. It became obsessed with the 1980′s and I believe It cheated on me with cheap skanky collabos.

I endured it until the Fall season, but it was always the same promise, “I will give you the best collections this season baby”, and of course I was a fool and believed it. But it was too late, I found It’s inbox full of e-mails, texts and even pictures with Lady Gaga! How dare It do this to me? I had always been faithful, following It’s trends and I even purchased a few of the awful publications from It’s mother, Anna Wintour.  I just could not take it anymore and one night under the bed, I found the most awful thing….  SHOULDER PADS!  At that moment, I confronted fashion and told It we needed to explore other things.

I am now seeing my childhood friend, medicine and we get along very well but fashion keeps e-mailing me, calling me, sending me invitations and I cannot stop thinking about It. I love fashion and always will, but I have learned that I am also interested in other things. Fashion and I are now close friends, we occasionally hold hands and see each other at events but It knows that I also care about medicine. Fashion will always be a part of my life and who knows, maybe one day we’ll share something together again.

I know exactly how you feel! Fashion is such a massive part of my life and I love it to bits, but writing and the study of English Literature will always be my first and most passionate love… Sad I know :D

I was redirected here from doe deere’s blog, and I definitly will be returning. I too have a love/hate relationship with fashion. I’ve spent many years trying to follow fashion, to be someone who could be called fashionable, but when I finally got enough guts to try the new clothes, the fad has left and I’m just left in the wake. I then decided to keep fashion at a reasonable distance, and work on my education instead. Now that I teach, I’ve noticed high schoolers tend to be nicer towards teachers who are more fashionable, I guess we teachers are more accesable socially if we resemble the teenagers a bit. In any case, I’ve been following fashion more so lately, but its more of an acquaintance than a friendship.

    Definitely found another reader <3

    @ Melinda
I completely understand, I feel a bit fashionably lost right now and sometimes I like trends but when I see them in person I find myself not liking them as much. I guess fashion is a very different thing for all of us, it’s inescapable whether we choose to acknowledge it or not, fashion will always be part of our lives.

PS: How wonderful that you are a teacher, I have a great respect for educators and btw I love your images at your Deviant art :)

    Much love,
    Glendy
