R.J. Cutler Interview and The September Issue Special Edition Preview!

I’m very happy to share with you guys some wonderful news! I was invited this past Tuesday to be part of a great opportunity and ask director R.J. Cutler a question via conference call with other great bloggers about his upcoming release of The September Issue - 2-disc special edition, (Thanks to Jennifer for the invite!) As we all know the fashion and publishing industry have taken a hit but I wanted to know if anyone in the Vogue-universe had any idea what was about to come after the 2007 grand edition, here’s my question:

The September Issue of 2007 was been the biggest Vogue issue of all time, unfortunately we all know now that the magazine industry has taken a hit, at any point did Grace or Anna seem to worry that a decline would follow in the future?

R.J: “No, I have to say I can’t think of an instance, now again this is something that Tom Florio, might have been worrying about but you gotta remember in the Spring and Summer of 2007, very few people thought, except for the people who were watching the housing industry, culturally there’s wasn’t a lot of  widespread concern.  There was certainly an awareness that the fashion industry had grown into a global power house,  you see that again in the scene where Burt (Burton Tansky) is talking about shipping, he says, we are all having a great time here, but these guys (designers) don’t realize how big of a business it has become and how much of a demand there is for their product, that was something that Anna, as a business woman was aware of and you see that thought out the film. I don’t think anyone realized to what degree the rug was about to be pulled under the economy and under all the luxury businesses and under the publishing industry,  I can’t think of an instance where it was referred to.”

Although,  no one really knew the decline of the fashion industry would soon follow after 2007, Cutler did note that Tom Florio, could’ve been aware of the business environment but then again nothing is for certain. All we can do now is enjoy the glamour and fashion of Vogue’s hey-day and triumphant Issue ever.

I got the chance to preview the 2nd disc with the deleted and behind the scenes footage. The second DVD is like a cherry on top, you NEED to watch the funny and very REAL situations that happened between takes, if you liked the movie you cannot miss out to own this special edition set.  The DVD special 2-disc edition will be release on February 23rd for $29.99, you can also pre-order it online via Amazon and i-tunes.
