A riveting behind-the-scenes look into the world of fashion, The September Issue debuts on DVD and digital download from Lionsgate.  An intimate, funny and surprising look at Vogue’s legendary editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and her team of larger-than-life editors, this is the captivating story of how they create the must-have Bible of fashion: The September Issue. Director RJ Cutler explores the untouchable glamour of Wintour’s Vogue to reveal the extraordinarily passionate people at its heart.  Hailed as “highly entertaining” (Time Out New York), “completely addictive” (Salon.com), “a hurricane of fabulousness” (New York Magazine) and “dishy, glitzy, vibrant and sensationally fun” (Entertainment Weekly), The September Issue stars a who’s who of fashion, featuring unprecedented access into the hallways of Vogue magazine, along with fashion royalty like Oscar De La Renta, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vera Wang, Thakoon, Karl Lagerfeld and more.  Available as a two-disc “Double Issue” DVD containing extensive bonus materials, including over 90 minutes of never-before-seen deleted scenes, audio commentary with the director and a photo gallery, The September Issue will be hitting stands on February 23, 2010 for the suggested retail price of $29.98.

At the eye of this annual fashion hurricane is the two-decade relationship between Anna and Grace Coddington, incomparable Creative Director and fashion genius. Through them, we see close-up the delicate creative chemistry it takes to remain at the top of the fashion field.  Now, with the biggest issue ever hanging in the balance, Anna and Grace confront the runways of Fashion Week, the backrooms of the world’s biggest designers, the high-stakes photo shoots – and each other – as the Vogue team scrambles to find the perfect look for each page of The September Issue.  Cutler delivers a riveting look into the world of fashion that is as fun, fabulous and fast-paced as the world it captures.

To improve Vogue, I would tell Anna Wintour to be more inclusive of different ethnicities & be conscious of beauty in more of a global sense. I think by opening this door Vogue would see an even more tremendous rise in not only readership, but respect & popularity of Vogue.

  2. apparellel says:

honestly i think vogue needs a complete overhaul. i would have to write a novel about. basically what needs to be done is exactly what liz tilberis did with bazaar magazine. bazaar became a work of art once she was done with it. do you remember the covers?!!! wowza! anway. blah, blah

you are sweet for doing a giveaway i really can’t wait to see the movie.

Oh my goodness! There are no words for how much I want to win this giveaway!! This DVD looks killer.

So, I have been reading Vogue since I was 12 years old and I have years and years of beauty tips and the “what’s new” (which should be expected) but what I would LOVE to see are articles on the behind the scene cogs of the fashion industry (hence this DVD), not just designer close ups, but also fashion marketing, events, runway production, EVERYTHING.

I want a magazine that gives me an intimate understanding of the industry I love so much.

  4. Charly says:

To improve Vogue AW should showcase a plethora of minorities and ethic groups, not be so celebrity driven – actually have people who are doing amazing things in this world featured in all their glory on the cover and finally show fashion in a different light – the hardship, the drama show the readers that couture and rtw isn’t all glamorous and we the readers should not have to suffer to feel like we have to fit into some image of beauty that even the creators: designers, stylist, make up artist etc don’t live up to. Love this giveaway and good luck to all the entrants!

  6. I have some advice for Anna Banana:

How about some diversity? Perhaps some Asian, Native American, Indian, Latina and/or black models/actresses/etc… would like some time on the cover of her esteemed magazine.

How about some healthy models? Believe it or not, they exist and don’t need to be airbrushed into near vapor.

I don’t need this to be counted as an entry — I just wanted to throw in my two cents.

  8. Jenny says:

    Ooh. How fun.

I have been reading Vogue for many, many years. But what I’ve noticed over the last five, is that Vogue seems to have lost it’s edge. I think Anna has caved more than she would ever let on and caters to a wider audience. It’s unfortunate. So my advice, would be to bring back high fashion Vogue. The Vogue that intimidated me as a teenager. People don’t read Vogue because they want to relate. We want to be inspired and have something to aspire to.

My advice to Anna would be add an extra editorial to every issue. That, and hire me!

  11. Ashling says:

Push the boundaries of fashion! I think that Vogue has got to safe and commercial and plays to the designers that pay for advertising in the magazine. And more interesting articles… I can’t remember the last time I actually read an article in Vogue. They are dull, dull, dull! Vogue used to be my style bible but its losing credibility in my eyes. I do think that Anna Wintour has a tough job though. The internet and bloggers are taking over as the voice of fashion!

    Awesome giveaway!!!

  13. Jackie says:

I would love to see more editorials in every issue. And I want to see glamorous, inspired, and downright shocking photographs. When I buy Vogue I’m always expecting to see art but instead I find a stack of ads and mundane fashion spreads.

  14. Reena Rai says:

This is so annoying, like a true addict I got the DVD straight away and now there is a better one out! Anyway, I would tell Anna to be more inclusive and less exclusive, of ethnicities and lower priced clothes. That could possibly be the most contraversial thing she could do..x

  15. Less ads, more ARTICLES!

Also, I’d suggest Ms. Wintour be more accommodating of people on a lower budget.

  16. Jane S says:

I think that there are a lot of magazines which flourish through promoting celebrities, talking about their trials and tribulations and personal lives… but Vogue should keep its cameras squarely on what those celebrities are wearing, not what keeps them up at night.

Actually, Vogue should be showing us what they will be wearing next year. I just think that with the internet shuttling celebrity information around so quickly and efficiently, it can almost completely be written out of the magazine.

  17. VOGUE’s problem is a lack of adaptation to the modern industry – it doesn’t reflect so much the fresh designers on the scene, the risk-taking, the indie-celebrities that are beginning to capture as many hearts as a-list stars, etc. VOGUE US is still catering to the fashion elite – an exclusive crowd that exists less and less. The coverage hints at a closed-off, mysterious industry … but the world of fashion is now exposed and more dynamic than ever. It may be abstract advice, but I’d tell her to leave a few more edges unfinished, toss a few more wild card products into the pages, produce editorials that have more of a world-view and ignite a spark in its readers. Sparks, Anna! Sparks!

Great contest, btw. It’s cool seeing what other readers think. xx

  18. Ashley Tschudin says:

As an avid Vogue reader since I was 5 (yes seriously 5), it is difficult for me to critique Anna Wintour, as I believe that she is a genius. My only advice to her would to be to feature more plus sized models as other Vogue magazines have recently done. Not that I am plus sized but I believe they could increase their readership and draw in another demographic of women. If Anna Wintour does it the whole fashion industry will follow suit.
Thanks for offering this giveaway and good luck to all who enter!

  19. dreamsequins says:

Make Grace Coddington Editor in Chief. Haha. I loved this documentary. I think Anna definitely has the business brains, but Grace and I are on the same page aesthetically speaking…

  20. Cid says:

I would tell Anna Wintour, loved your mag, recently not so much. Like another person commented, its kinda lost its edge. I need more from your magazine and by more I mean its not diverse. I want to see more diverse styles, people and how about some curvier models. Maybe I am biased to curves cause I got lots of them…LOL But really Vogue does not represent me, can’t afford or fit into most things they feature. To me Vogue is not the be all & end all of fashion any more. SO that’s what I would tell her! Can I have my movie now! J/K :))

i would ask dear anna to make it more edgy…i have been reading vogue for so many years…i used to love it for its “out there” fashion…now it seems so predictable…and that to me…is not what vogue is all about…
