Animal Battle: Chanel RTW Fall 2010 Review

Now, this isn’t an animal planet related post but if a grizzly bear and a polar bear got into a fight during a fashion show, Chanel’s latest Fall collection would be the outcome of this ferocious battle. However, I think the animal brawl would’ve been the highlight of the show since Chanel’s latest pieces were not what I was expecting, the over-the-top fur and Eskimo like ensembles looked a bit tacky. I love Chanel but I don’t know what uncle Karl was thinking, sometimes fur can look chic but I don’t understand how fur went wrong in this show, check out the pics….

Although, I didn’t like most of the collection, I have to admit there were a few pieces that were gorgeous and beautiful. Check out these wonderful items which remind me of the classiness and wonder of Chanel :)

Monday Scoop: Christian Siriano Channels McQueen for Newest Payless Collection – Style: The Best Korean Fashion Drama

I had previewed the newest Christian Siriano shoes for Payless but I just got a tip about the exclusive and limited edition avant-garde Christian Siriano shoes being sold online only! The exclusive edition is an obvious interpretation of the late McQueen’s Spring 2010 RTW shoes made famous by Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance Video. I think the shoes look interesting and chic, however they are much pricier than the previous Payless editions at $79.99. What do you guys think, would you wear them?

In other news, I am totally addicted to Korea’s fun soap opera or K-drama called, Style. It’s a Devil Wears Prada inspired drama and no, it’s nothing like Ugly Betty or any other shows I’ve seen. I love the characters and fashions, it’s great to see a gorgeous curvy Asian woman become an independent and successful editor-in-chief ;) Check out this wonderful and fresh take into the fashion industry!

My Closet’s Trash and Treasure

I was looking through my closet a few weeks ago and came across a fugly pair of shoes I found in the depths of my NYC mini “closet” a.k.a tiny hole in the wall. I grabbed these things and started wondering where I had gotten them, I then took a look inside and realized these were the Yves Saint Laurent vintage shoes one of my old bosses had given me ages ago, OMGEEEE! The shoes were untied and the flaps were splattered all over the place, I gathered the belts and tied them around the flaps and tada…. This is what these babies are supposed to look like :)

As I kept digging through the unknown, I also found these cuties, caged and steel heeled vintage Charles Jourdan sandals, my ex-boss had also given me these in three colors, hot pink, cobalt blue and black! I’m not very familiar with the brand but they’re in great shape and made in France.

After more searching and digging, I found this forgotten gem, years ago I would always carry it with me, I remember when Gwen Stefani was still hot and came out with her handbag line, now it’s just sitting in my closet, chilling probably remembering the good ol’ days when it would be the center of attention, lol. Thanks for the bag G.

Note that I found some repetitive trends and some pretty bad fashion spreads, so before you head out to pick up your favorite magazine here’s a peek into what’s hot this month, check them out!

I loved this awesome spread featuring some cool accessories and the recurring gypsy trend, bright and flamboyant prints, yes!

Vogue and Marie Claire were both showcasing similar gypsy/ethnic/mix all the prints you can find + all the accessories you can pile on trend, lol.

The annoying repetitive trend: Military/Commando/Camouflage

I don’t know why all the magazines decided to showcase this trend, yes it was big on the runways but I’m not feeling it, this all gives me a migraine to look at, they all look very similar and none of the spreads evoke anything special, got creativity anyone?…. Except EXCEPT Vogue, scroll down ;)

The Beautiful Mirror: How to embrace your true beauty

A few days a go I received an e-mail, I will not disclose any information to respect the privacy of the author but I was asked in a shy manner to remove a photo I had taken of the subject. This person thought the image I had taken of them looked very ugly and unflattering. At first, I thought it was a joke since I thought the image was stunning and beautiful but then I realized the subject felt really uncomfortable with the close-up image. I removed the photo but something about this bothered me, how can this person believe they looked unattractive when in fact, they’re gorgeous! We all perceive ourselves differently, what I may find beautiful may be the opposite for someone else.

Years ago, I thought I looked very plain and unattractive but as time passed I learned to accept who I was and became more comfortable in my skin. However, I have come across many beautiful women who think they are unattractive because they’re not tall or thin enough. In reality many of us are not satisfied with our appearance, however we can always find outward influences as the root of this problem but the only way to change our insecurities is to look within and change the way we perceive ourselves.

We turn on the TV, flip through magazines, look at ads and find images of the perfect hair and face but attempting to become perfect copies of what the media wants us to believe as being beautiful will only fill us with self doubt. So before you go out today, stop and look at yourself in the mirror and appreciate what’s looking back at you! Here are some tips that will help you take control of your image and make you feel like the prettiest being on the planet :)

Stop Criticizing Yourself!

Stop comparing yourself to Kim Kardashian or Angelina Jolie, just because you have different features doesn’t mean you’re not attractive, you’re beautiful in your unique way and it’s the diversity of human beings that makes us different and special. You can spend your entire life trying to change what you dislike about your appearance , your nose, hair and face, but if you’re not happy with who you are on the inside, no amount of plastic surgery or make-up will make you feel better about yourself.

Find Your Special Attributes:

Maybe you have beautiful lips or gorgeous legs, take advantage of what you like the most about yourself and show it off, dress up with shorter lengths or play up your gorgeous lips with bright colors. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with showing the world your beautiful attributes but most of all be confident, there’s nothing more attractive than someone who beams with self-assurance.

Love Yourself

Someone very special to me said, “it is our imperfections that makes us human” I still carry these words with me because no one is perfect and maybe you do not look like a model or a celebrity but that’s ok because physical beauty can only take you so far but confidence and self love can make you appealing and attractive no matter where you are. It is your personality and individuality that will attract others to you as a person. Take a good look at your reflection today and tell yourself that you’re wonderful and beautiful and let the whole world admire what a special being you are.

Yesterday, I received a wonderful gift in the mail, Yvan Rodic’s upcoming Facehunter Book! I’ve always been a huge fan of his blog and couldn’t wait to show you a sneak-peek of Rodic’s iconic fashion images. If you follow the Facehunter Blog you’ll see some of the most memorable photos in this volume along with some wonderful notes from Rodic’s experience as a photographer. The book will be available on March 15th and can be purchased online from Thames and Hudson. Japan comes to NYC: The Tokyo Fashion Festa!

This past Friday, I was invited to see the cutest show of the week and it was also the best ending to New York Fashion Week. The Tokyo Fashion Festa was held at F.I.T and gathered the most recognized brands in Lolita, Gothic Lolita and other popular Tokyo styles rarely seen in NYC. The event was brought together by Madame Killer and focused on the many colorful and interesting fashion subcultures in Japan, in addition to the live music acts, the dedicated fans made the event very special and memorable. I saw her in the audience at the show, her outfit is lovely and she was giving me the 411 in Lolita fashion, she believes “Lolita is not only fashion but a way of life” I also understood the difference between Sweet Lolita (ruffles, pink and light baby colors) versus Elegant Gothic Lolita (dark hues with religious accessories e.g. crosses )

I absolutely loved her outfit, her skirt had a magical fairy tale print inspired by Snow White, amazing!

As Katy told me “Lolita has no age, anyone can be a Lolita even if you’re in your thirties or forties” I have to agree, look at this elegant lady, every detail and accessory is beautiful, hmm… I’m starting to consider this Lolita fashion, lol.

Bloganizing: Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference

Hi guys, I’m a bit behind but I wanted to share with you a few pics from the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference (Evolving Influence) held at The Helen Mills Theater this past Monday. I was very excited to view the panels and see some of the wonderful bloggers of this unique community. I was very happy to see Jennine from The Coveted and founder of IFB, she’s always so welcoming and amazing. I also saw the lovely Melissa and Jeniffer from Wokchic , Deanne from Dream Sequins and the fab Wendy Brandes.

The conference covered interesting panels featuring topics such as, The Business of Blogging, Blog Ethics and The Future of Fashion Blogging (featuring, Bryan Boy, Sussie Bubble and Tavi) you can watch videos of some of these panels via Bobbin Talk’s Channel, in case you missed them.

Here’s a pic of me at the lounge haha, I apologize if you saw me behind my lap-top in a corner but I was trying to catch up with work and I’m a bit shy. I arrived at the conference around 2:30 PM and left a bit after the last panel. If I missed you please drop me a line, we should meet up soon :)
